Those of you who have been reading my ramblings since the old 360 days will have noticed that no matter where I host the blog at I have always had the same profile picture all these years. The picture of a regal looking Maine Coon Cat. THE CATFATHER so named by his caretaker Deb Leonard because all the animals in his neighborhood knew who was the boss. Dog , cat or anything else you didn’t mess with the Catfather:) I loved hearing Deb talk about this cat from the first time she told me about him and he just looked so cool and dignified. So I borrowed a picture of him and have been using it ever since, something she has been kind enough to allow these years. Deb and the Catfather were on my list of friends I wanted to visit someday. Regretfully I will not get to visit the great Cat whenever I get around to visiting Deb as she recently informed me of his passing. Farewell buddy hope you are chasing the mice across the sky. In memory one cool cat:)
“From CATS ARE KIND
“A man said to the universe,
‘Sir, I exist!’
‘Excellent,’ replied the universe,
‘I’ve been looking for someone to take care of my cats.”
― Henry N. Beard, Poetry for Cats: The Definitive Anthology of Distinguished Feline Verse
Black cat, black cat, smiles and lies,
hiding behind your black cat eyes.
Sneaking glances and proud prances,
ears erect, you are foolishly wise.
Black cat, black cat, tail a twitch,
you snap it like a long black switch.
Indifferent poses and upturned noses,
nails kneading, you are a witch.
Black cat, black cat, treacherous grin,
Jumping, prowling, you go for a spin.
Tensely tiffed and mildly miffed,
niftly napping, you always win.
Black cat, black cat, calling meow,
I can pet you when you allow.
Pleasantly purring, just barely stirring,
nuzzling nearer, I’ll forgive you somehow.

On Bruce Springsteen’s “Live 1975-1985” album ( a fantastic album by the way) he mentions a book by “Joe Klein” about Woody Guthrie and that “This land Is Your Land” was written “as an angry song as an answer to Irving Berlin who had just written God Bless America”. Now this didn’t make any sense to me at the time as I didn’t recall anyone else stating this before neither in school or since I had graduated. I chalked it up to just being an opinion that Klein and Springsteen shared and only thought about it whenever I was listening to the album, as this was a frequent occurrence though I eventually did a little internet search but never found anything that really substantiated this claim and regretfully I never got around to checking out the book in question either.
Fast Forward a decade or so and I am at work and I ask the girl I am working with what she is listening to which turned out to be “The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band” another band I am very fond of so I downloaded one of their Greatest Hits albums to my phone on break and was listening to it when it played “Working Man- Nowhere to Go”. A song about a farmer who looses his farm and in general about many working people who lost their jobs and how it affected them. Toward the end of the song the farmer says these lines”Singing a song by Woody Guthrie This land is your land; it ain’t my land I’m a workin’ man, with nowhere to go”. This reminded me of the Springsteen quote and seemed more inline with the idea that Springsteen had mentioned. So I did a search on the quote from “Workin Man…” and ran across this article from the last inauguration ceremony on the “Truthout.org website. http://archive.truthout.org/011909R So it turns out that like many things over the course of history “This land is your land” was edited to make it more friendly to the masses and less of a critique of the problems in our country. Gives the song a whole new feel and flavor. So my quest for the truth about this song started with a taping of one Springsteen concert and ended with the taping of another Springsteen concert just a a few:) years later. History through music. What a concept, But Hey Bruce, you know all of this would have been a heck of a lot easier if you had simply played the full song all those years ago:)
Today’s Trivia Question.
What was Woody Guthrie s nickname?
Peace out everyone.

Reviews of some alternatives to the traditional boob tube. I mainly use the following apps. on my xbox360 and sometimes on my laptop but they are also available on several other devices you can use to stream video to your tv. with the Roku box being the most popular of these devices.
Hulu/Plus – This is my go to app. With me working nights and usually napping during the Prime Time tv hours Hulu/Plus lets me catch up on anything I missed the next day or several days later at my convenience it also has the added benefit of making you sit through less commercials than you would watching any tv. program live though you don’t actually have to sit and watch them you do have to let the commercials at least play out if you want to continue watching your program. Shows I have watched on Hulu/Plus include The Daily Show, The Colbert Report, Once Upon A Time, Master Chef, Bet On Your Baby and many others. Regretfully not all the tv networks shows are on Hulu/Plus or any other video streaming app for that matter as many of the big television networks like the music industry before them are trying to derail apps like this instead of embracing them as the wave of the future that they are. But be that as it may be Hulu/Plus is one of two video apps that I am willing to pay to use.
Netflix -Still the biggest name in this field and the second app I pay to use..I have been a Netflix member on and off for several years now. I do not use Netflix to watch many movies these days or subscribe to their DVD service currently instead like Hulu I use it to watch tv shows I have missed though Netflix is more of an archival service you can’t watch a show from last night on it but they do have complete seasons of more tv. shows than any other app that I am aware of ranging from shows like Dr. Who and Dexter to Network classics like Cheers and Magnum P.I. and current fan favorites like The Walking Dead.. If you want to catch up on a show you missed the first time it was on Netflix is still probably your best bet.
Viggle- Viggle isn’t a video streaming app like the other two services I have already mentioned. Think of it as a modern Nielson Survey for the mobile phone crowd with real rewards. You download the app to your iphone with version 4.3 or greater or Android powered phone.with version 2.2 or greater. When you are watching tv. you “check in” by tapping the app which then listens to your tv program for a few seconds and matches the audio from your tv show to a list of shows that are on your cable provider. Once it finds your show it begins giving you points at the rate of one per minute for each minute the show will be on from that point on. Some Prime Time shows and sporting events also have live trivia you can play to earn even more points. I have seen some people complain online about the type of rewards ( mainly gift cards and free months to services like Hulu ) and that they do not always have enough of all the rewards available but considering it’s free and your getting it for doing something you were all ready going to do anyway personally I consider those complaints a bit of the old sour grapes. I have used points for three rewards so far and they were instantly given to me with no delays or hassles so I have no complaints with their service.
And now the first trivia question for the game that will run through May.
What movie was I streaming today that this quote is from?
” No need to panic. But I think you just swallowed Plan B”
All the usual rules apply:)

These pics are from Lebanon’s recent Memorial day parade which me and Gizmo attended . It was fun even if it was the shortest parade I have ever been to. The flyover of the old navy warplanes was cool though I wish I had some warning so I could have gotten a pic of them. Note- You must click on the red line below the photos to see the full photos.
Today’s Trivia Question is-
What is the oldest continuous Memorial Day parade in America?

What group had a hit with a “smiling song” in April of 1971? Points will be given for both the group and the song.
Trivia update. I had some computer issues this month so I am just going to roll any questions from this month over into next month’s contest. Also while the prize will be the usual mishmash I have decided to add a gift certificate to the prize package as well. I haven’t decided what kind or how much so just consider that detail a surprise.
